Another session of get to know the MidWest Team

Matt Waite “For It”

Matt started mountain biking in 2002 by just riding local single track in Stevens Point,
WI unaware of the vast racing circuits ongoing throughout the state of Wisconsin. One
summer day he found there was a WORS race in Wausau at 9mile state park and was
interested in what he could do. In his first race he climbed onto the podium and it’s been
history from there.

Matt competed in the WORS citizen series in 2003 and placed 3rd overall in his age
group. In 2004 he upgraded to Sport and placed 4th overall in the series. He quickly
climbed to the elite category, however the road took over when he entered college and
started racing with the UW Madison Cycling Team, while working on his degree in
Nutritional Science. He quickly moved up the categories and began racing Men’s A in
2005. In 2006 Matt had the opportunity to compete in Granfondos in Italy while studying
abroad and racing with MTBike out of Florence, Italy. In addition to his shot stay in Italy
he was part of the 2007 MWCCC Conference Champions Team and has competed in 3
College Road Nationals.

Matt has focused on the road for the past 5 years, but is turning his attention back to the
dirt and gravel of Wisconsin starting with the 2011Mountain bike and the CX seasons.
He hopes to place high in the WCA CX overall and compete at CX Nationals in Madison,
WI in January. Matt wants to travel around the United States and race some of the
hardest and most prestigious races out there. He continues to train and race hard in hopes
of landing a professional contract someday.
